A new building to expand a growing local business is a true sign of the times for a Cainsville company.
After 32 years at southeast corner of Highway 2 and 53, Tony and Angela Henrique, owners of Brooks Signs, are moving east to a one-hectare site next door.
Angela Henrique said that new contracts led to a 50 per cent increase in staff over the last year. The company employs 28 people.
“We are busting at the seams,” she said.
“We leased a building across the road to handle the overflow here.”
Vicano Construction will be erecting the new 1,860-square-metre building, which is set to be finished by the end of next May. The property is large enough to accommodate either an expansion for Brooks Signs or to create space for other tenants.
Brooks has a rich history in creating “one-off” signs for small operations and also has a lot of gas station business, said Angela Henrique.
“Gas stations do a lot of rebranding and we just got a contract for a huge project for Mobile to do their Ontario gas stations.”
The firm also does a lot of work for Brokerlink and Car Quest.
The current building is oddly shaped and has low ceilings that impeded work-flow. The new building will include a second level for offices.
Angela Henrique said the current building either will be leased or razed so the property can be sold.
In 2014, the Henriques won the Brantford-Brant Chamber of Commerce’s entrepreneur of the year award.
In a media release about the new facility, Vicano project manager Kelly Searle said that area subcontractors are especially eager to work on the Brooks Signs building.
“There’s a real buzz about this project,” she said.
Tony Henrique said the company will “remain true” to its roots by continuing to provide good service to customers, big and small.
